Week 2 PVC Pipe

PVC Pipes

For week 2 of the Hack My RV Challenge, we’re going to get creative with PVC pipe. Your assignment is to think of uses for PVC pipe that goes against their standard purpose, and is a clever “hack” for your RV. There are a lot of fun or practical uses for this hardware store staple, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

When you’ve completed your hack for the week, make sure to share a photo with us in the Challenge Facebook Group!

THIS WEEK’S ASSIGNMENT: PVC PIPE

To get you started, here’s an idea for a “cool” RV hack you can do with PVC pipe. Dave shows you how to make your own custom freezer packs for the cooler to keep those beverages chilled all summer long. Check it out in the video below:

I use 4" PVC, in 4 foot lengths, split in half as sewer line supports (keeps the sewer hose nice and straight)

I have made a couple of things out of PVC (unfortunately I am not home to takes pictures of them. First is an outside light that stands on the ground using a T support structure. It has an arm coming out just below the light where I can hang a banner or name sign. For the light, I used a glass mayonnaise jar. I screwed the cap to the PVC end cap with the light socket. I installed an power outlet in the post. The nice part is the T base legs are removable so it stores flat when traveling. The second project is a bike rack. It can handle multiple bikes at the campsite; it sits on the ground. Each bike is held upright by a PVC box that encloses the front wheel. The boxes are just big enough to contain the wheel - bigger bikes need a bigger box. The box is tilted back toward the bike to provide maximum support. The boxes use Ts for the lower corners. Using short pieces of pipe, you can attach multiple boxes together. A larger box is made that uses the bottom side of the wheel box(es) for one side. For a single bike you may want this box longer than the single box for lateral stability. The width of this box is such that the front wheel rolls into it as the wheel is enclosed in its box. This enables the rack to stand on its own with no bikes in it. By not gluing the pieces that attach the boxes together, on the one side of this larger box, it enables one to fold the rack flat for transporting. I will attach a picture when I return home.

Used it for a safety bar across the upper bunk of a class C, to protect the children from falling down. Mounted straps on each cabinet to insert the 1&1/4" pvc into each end capped. I sold the unit so l do not have any pictures, but if you need any more information about it feel free to let me know.

You can use PVC pipe to store next to anything in them because they come in different widths. You can use them to make things like drink holders and even bird feeders as well, to just name a few.

I put together a parade float with PVC pipe and we won first prize.

RV Hack. I used PVC for a Fishing Rod and Flag pole holder. I mounted 4 18" pieces of pvc to my rear bumper using oak wood to mount them. 1 holds my flag pole the other 3 are for my fishing poles.
