Is there a check valve that may have failed?

There should just be 4 bolts and nuts holding the valve in place. Sometimes the areas aren’t the easiest and don’t give much room but you just need to remove these bolts and pull the valve out of the opening. When installing a new one, make sure to have the gaskets in the proper position and then seat the valve into place. You then install the bolts and just have them nice and snug. Too tight and the fittings can crack. We have a few videos going over valves and how they work, they will give you a better idea on how to replace them.
