James, unfortunately, there is no way to add freon or coolant in these self-contained RV air conditioners.

The manufacturers build them this way so we have to purchase new AC units instead of just adding coolant; like we used to do. They will tell you it’s because of the environment; that Freon is bad. LOL

BUT, they don’t really care about the environment; the bottom line is greed and money.

Nothing was wrong with our AC except that it needed coolant added. But, instead, we had to purchase a new AC; which cost a lot with parts, labor, and mileage for the repair guy.

It sucks!

I have purchased a Dometic AC from Amazon, it works very well. it has a myriad of features that I love about it. For instance, I love that I have a choice about whether I want the standard amount of BTU of 13,500 or a little bit more power with the 15,000 option.

You can also cut out the plastic slats that cover the coil on the roof. Put screen covering where the slats were. This allows more air in.

In reply to Steve. Check your fan speed. Max cooling needs the Hi speed setting. Auto setting is not as efficient as continus.

I installed the RV Air System in my air conditioner, and it made all the difference in the world. I get a greater air flow and cold air in places I didn’t get it before. Highly recommend the system.

Are there any companies making heat pumps for RVs? They are much more efficient for cooling and heating.
