Anastasia State Park’s biggest attraction is, without question, its beach. The park includes about four miles of unspoiled beach, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. On sunny days, it’s a very popular spot for visitors.

Located on the northeast side of the Sunshine State, about an hour from Jacksonville, this park is difficult to get into. RV Lifestyle and Repair contributors Jason and Lisa McEwen booked their site about a year in advance.

Here’s their review of the campground:

Park amenities

The beach is the park’s best amenity. While it’s not a walkable distance from any campsite, it is a short drive to get your toes in the sand. The McEwen girls, Adalyn and Riley, spent some time in the water, riding the waves, and enjoying the outdoors.

If you RV with young kids, the campground’s playground will be a hotspot. It’s tucked back in the campground area and serves as a fun, shaded spot for the kids to burn off some energy.

The park’s next best feature is its proximity to St. Augustine, a historic, tourist-friendly town that’s just minutes away from the park. On your list of must-see places is St. George Street, a pedestrian only street full of shops, restaurants, and unique historic spots.

Campground review

Anastasia State Park has 139 spots, broken up into a handful of loops. The spots are fairly level, with a sand floor, and most are surrounded with trees and shrubs for privacy. None of the sites have sewer hookups, so you’ll need to use one of two dump stations in the park.

Disadvantages of the park

Given the park’s popularity, the entrance to the park can get congested. Traffic can back up at the gate as both campers and beach goers clog the front of the park.

The park is also right next to a local amphitheater, so you will hear music as different acts take the stage. Overflow parking for concerts is inside the park too, so that can create some traffic headaches too.

Overall, if you’re looking for a beachside campground in Florida, with lots of things to see and do, Anastasia State Park could be a good base camp for your next RV trip.
