Choosing an RV Storage Facility
Jason & Lisa McEwenDo you need to store your RV? About a year ago, RV Lifestyle and Repair ContributorsJason and Lisa McEwen upgraded their camper. They had a smaller pop-up camper that they stored in their garage, but when they upgraded they needed to find storage.
In this video the McEwens will walk you through their experience shopping around for storage and what weighed into their final decision when choosing a RV storage facility.
Proximity
They wanted the storage facility to be fairly close to their house because you don’t want to tack on an extra hour to your travel days just to get to your camper. So, ideally, your storage facility is five to ten minutes away from your house but that wasn’t possible for the McEwen’s so they landed on a facility that is 15 to 20 minutes away.
Security
You’re making a big investment in an RV and if it’s not going to be on your property where you can see it at all times, you need to know it’s secure. The facility the McEwens chose has two gates that require entry codes to get in with multiple cameras scattered throughout under 24 hour surveillance.
They use a coupler lock on their travel trailer for an added measure of security and they always double check doors and compartments before they leave the facility to make sure they’re locked.
Additional features
At first, the McEwen family had a longer wish list for their storage unit. They really thought the shaded carport with a concrete slab was the way they were going to go, trying to do everything they could to protect their investment. However, the price goes up monthly with every one of those additional features and that had to be weighed into the budget. Ultimately, they decided against it.
This storage facility also has a separate area for you to do maintenance with full hookups. This is a great feature to have because when you don’t have a sewer connection at the campsite, you have to sometimes wait in a long line to empty the tanks at a dump station. When you have a storage facility with a dump station, you don’t have to wait in line if you don’t have the time. Finding storage takes a little bit of time and research. Hopefully some of these tips will help you on your next search.
