Inspecting the Exterior of a Lippert Slide-Out Room

Although there isn’t too much that could go wrong with a Lippert Slide-Out, it is important that you routinely check the exterior of your slide room to ensure all components are in ideal working condition.

You’ll learn how to inspect the seals, flapper, springs and gears for any obstructions or debris, and discover what you should do if you notice the gears aren’t spinning the way they ought to.    I hv a 2021 Forest River Salem. Recently slide out does not slide in or out evenly and stopped cockeyed a little. My husband has to push the problem side to get it to catch before it will slide in or out totally. Is there something we can try to get it to align before we bring it in to get it repaired? Big ordeal bcuz we travel full time in it. Tks.

     Hello Sally,

     Here’s what the experts had to say about your question:

     It depends on the slide system you have. If you have an in-wall system that has two motors at the top of the corners of the slide then there is an issue with the motors, control board or the tracks themselves. You would need to find the control board and see if there is an error code blinking on it. This can help narrow down the issue. If you have a different system it is possible the slide just needs adjusted to get it more centered. If not centered, the slide can be pushing up against one side and hitting the seals which makes it tough to move. We have a video on this I will share below. The in-wall systems don’t have adjustments, only something wrong within the system can cause an issue like this and if you can’t find it right away it is best to take to a shop before more get damaged. If you have to push on the slide it can be damaging other components. Don’t do this unless you have to. It could be damaging the seals, framing, mechanisms etc. I would first find out what kind of slide you have and see if adjustments can be made.

   I have a slide seal that is no longer securely attached to the vehicle. Every time I retract the slide I have to physically hold the seal in place to ensure a proper seal. What should I use to glue the seal in place so I will not have to hold it while slide is being retracted.

   Hi, first love your video series, very helpful. i wanted to ask for the flapper, what type of lubricant to use? i cannot make out what is said in the video. i use slide-out lubricant for the seals and used the same on the flapper, not sure if that should be ok however?

     Thank you for your patience while I reached out to the expert, here is the reply:

     The slide out lubricant is just a rubber lubricant in general. It can be used on all rubber materials. The wiper you are describing is the same material as the seal, just different thickness and density. It is good to use the same lubricant on both.
