Thanks to cramped quarters and a lack of specialized appliances, cooking while touring the country in an RV can become claustrophobic and repetitive. There’s typically only enough space for essential cookware, and RVers often opt to ditch fresh produce for processed and boxed food that will last. So how do you keep things interesting and healthy?

That’s where the Internet comes in. Name your favorite meal, and someone has probably blogged about trying to make it (successfully or not) in an RV kitchen. To break the monotony of oven-baked pastas, grilled meats, and sandwich concoctions, here are five creative low-cost recipes you should try out the next time you hit the road in your RV.
1. Single-Skillet Country Breakfast

Simplify your morning meal and jumpstart your day with a smorgasbord of hearty ingredients. All you’ll need for this minimalist country breakfast is a cutting board and a high-quality skillet. Feel free to experiment with your go-to vegetables and any spices you prefer—you just can’t go wrong!
2. Eggplant Lasagna

With some of our favorite summer vegetables making their way onto grocery store shelves, it’s easy to swap out the meat heavy dishes for something refreshingly fresh once or twice a week. This eggplant lasagna recipe checks the boxes of two key factors in order to be a great RV meal: It’s filling enough to satisfy the whole family and all ingredients required will hold up well in the fridge and the cupboards.
3. Slow Cooker Pot Roast

If you haven’t yet invested in a slow cooker for your motor-home, bookmark this page and get yourself to a home goods store. We’re all about this savory pot roast dish, but you’d be hard pressed to find a slow-cooked meal that fails to delight. Throw in the ingredients when you start your morning routine, then enjoy the mouthwatering smells as your food cooks throughout the day.
4. Grilled Salmon with Dijon Maple Glaze

Similar to slow cooker recipes, we’ve never been steered wrong when it comes to marinating salmon in a sweet and salty dressing and letting the grill do its work. This quick marinade requires little effort and can be paired with any number of sides, from robust greens to flavor-complementing rices.
5. Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus

Speaking of sides, why not treat yourself by creating something that’s healthy but a little bit indulgent? You say bacon wrapped around a roasted vegetable, and we’ll come running. We’re not trying to tell you what to do, but we bet this dish would fit perfectly alongside that salmon.
Whether you’re headed out for a long haul or just a weekend jaunt, try to have some fun in the kitchen with your RV meals. There’s always a new recipe to try, just a Google search away.

How to remove screens from overhead vents in roof
Hello Wendy,
Thank you for the question, here is the experts reply:
There are many different styles but typically they are held in place with little tabs on the sides. Usually the turning knob or handle for the vent lid needs removed as well. There are some screens that need the surround garnish removed first. The is the plastic piece around the vent that is attached to the ceiling. Dropping this down usually gets access to the screen. The screen can also have screws on the edges holding it in as well.

Which is the best method to winterize your motor home, air compressor or antifreeze? thanks.
I always recommend using the antifreeze. Using compressed air doesn’t always get out all of the water as when the air passes through it can push water up on the sides and once the pressure is released there can still be water in the lines. If the water settles at a connection and it freezes it can still cause damage, it isn’t 100% using just air. When antifreeze is entered into the system it displaces the water by pushing it out and only leaving the antifreeze in the lines. Even if some water didn’t make it out it would mix with the antifreeze and wouldn’t freeze enough to cause damage. When you have antifreeze coming out of all water outlets it ensures your system will be safe. I know many people that only use air but I have seen damage to systems from this way more often than using the antifreeze.

I am totally confused. I have been bombarded by ads and salespeople about a warranty for my RV. I have been quoted as much as $3,200.00 per year for three years for a “stem to stearn” warranty. I need help.
I don’t have any questions right now, but if you have any suggestions please let me know

Trying to figure out why a buzzer call light comes on , on the dash
I am on an endless search for great things to cook while RVing. The asparagus I have been doing for years. The Country Skillet Breakfast is now on my list.
Would love to see more info on convection oven cooking in an RV
We love our crock pot dinners, especially when we’re on the road. We put the crock pot in the sink so it won’t slide around, then add our favorite receipe from the cook book. “Chicken Lickin’ Pork Chops” uses cream of chicken soup, water and rice. It is best of you flour and season the chops ahead and quickly brown them before putting them in the pot. After about three hours on the road the great aroma starts making us hungry which assures that we don’t drive too long!
What am I missing here? How are you generating electric while driving down the road?
Hi Bob. The recipes and ideas posted in the blog are designed to provide great meals prepared in an RV kitchen when you are at a campground or boondocking site, not while driving down the road. In fact while driving the propane should be shut off at the tank, all appliances off, and any loose items inside the rig such as crock pots, pans, and especially cooking utensils such as knives should be stowed and secure.
What about your refrigerator on the road. 90 out today
I also was wondering how the fridge was going to run with propane tanks shut off
Hi Russell!
That’s a great question!

30 years ago my ex would run the generator while driving down the road and I would cook breakfast in the electric skillet. Now. Have a fixer upper and plan on taking my Instant Pot with browning lid.
HI bob, you can cook with your crock pot while driving down the road if you have solar panel and an inverter because it also charges your battery. There is also a crock pot that does not use any power at all and yes it does cook. This is available through “ecosway” either on line or at their store. check it out, Ann-Marie
Ann Marie I don’t see anything on ecosway, Online they look like a cosmetic company
They probably have an inverted in their motor home. It makes several plugs working
