If you’ve installed a new entrance door on your trailer or RV, you might need to replace the latch that holds it in place when open. This is because the previously mounted door latch is probably located in the wrong spot for a good fit. Replacing door latches is a simple process, and all it requires is a bit of marking and predrilling to make sure both sides of the system are properly aligned.

In this quick video lesson, RV maintenance and repair expert Dave Solberg walks you step by step through a demonstration of this easy install. He shows you how to locate the best spot for the anchor and the latch, pre-drill on both sides, and then talks about why it can be important to add silicone for a leak-proof seal. Lastly, he demonstrates the best way to adjust a screen-door latch that is slightly too high or low.
