Hi Anthony. If it is a swivel connection it will have a gasket inside of it. Most likely it just isn’t fully seated or the gasket is bad. Remove the connection and check the gasket and then re install to see if it helps. If the leak is at a connection to a fitting, most likely the fitting will need replaced.

My awning light does not stay on! When you put it on .It goes off? Bob.
Firefly system not displaying levels in gray and black water tanks. Sensors seem to have good output. It is the G12 wiring design (I and attach a copy if needed). Seems like it is either signal in is to wrong channel, channel is getting sign in but no ground, software has specified wrong terminals as input or zero to full scale for the channel is wrong as in perhaps 0-10mV in but signal is 0 to 100mV?

Bathroom sink drains very slowly, It is the fold down sort. I suspect that there is a kink in the drain line hose. Anyone having the same problem. Fix? Remove wall panel and put coil reinforced line in?

The best thing to do is locate the drain lines and see if you notice any sort of kink in the line. There are ways to install straps and hangers to help support the line. There have been times where I installed a sturdier line to help with this as well. This is common in fold down sinks and usually the best way to resolve it is to install a support strap or hanger to help prevent the kink from happening.

We are new to the RV world, and we’re naive when we bought our used Class C. Unfortunately the previous owner did not disclose problems with the roof, including leaks and did a good job of covering these up when we inspected the rig.
Although we hired a contractor who’s taken nearly 8 months to update the RV, including fixing the leaks, we’ve discovered new smaller leaks in the area where he ran some wires.
The contractor poured sine Marine roof product that supposedly would last 20 years. However, we believe because he ran wires inside one of the cabinets (new leaks) he disturbed something.
What is the best product to use to coat the roof that is long lasting. We don’t have the budget to replace the roof.

Not sure on the water heater model, I need to know how to completely drain it. Our last outing, the hot water was cloudy and had a nasty odor. I was advised to drain it, fill with a couple gallons of vinegar wait a couple hours and rinse. Ok, but how do I drain it?
Hello Robert,
The only way to drain it is to remove the drain plug. This will still allow some water to sit at the bottom of the tank. This is done on purpose so sediment floats in the water instead of laying on the tank and eating away at it. The best thing to do is to remove the drain plug and once all the water drains you then connect to the city water supply. Make sure to leave the drain plug out. Turn on the water supply and water will start flushing out of the drain plug. While it is running it will be flushing out the sediment and other debris. Let it run like this for at least 10 minutes. Once the water is pretty clear and doesn’t smell you can turn off the supply and re install the drain plug and then fill the tank again. If you want to remove most of the water you will have to connect an air supply to the city inlet and do the same flush with air instead of water. You can then add the vinegar to the tank and let it sit. Most of the time this isn’t needed though, just giving the tank a good flush helps the best.

My shower drain pipe shifted shifted slightly to the side of the shower drain and water drips on the ground outside. I can push them back in alignment and the dripping stops. There is a rubber gasket between the bottom of the drain and the top of the drain pipe and the fitting is fairly snug but it doesn’t seem like a permanent solution. Do I need to do something more?
Hi Dave!
There should be fittings that are just twisted on around the trap and other plumbing. I would loosen everything on the abs plumbing and position it to where it needs to be and then snug them all up tightly to keep them in place and prevent further leaks. Don’t loosen the connection to the bottom of the drain. Most drain just use the rubber gasket for a seal. They usually hold up well unless the connections are removed. You want to install a new gasket if you ever take the drain connection apart.

ac does not start 20 amp breaker trips.
After we’ve emptied our tanks and then go to hook up are sewage draining tube the next time every time we open the cap Some liquid comes out seems like it might be from the black tank because it smells like Pee It’s never very much just enough to be obnoxious but I don’t think anything should be coming up because we had drain the tank previous to closing up. Any idea why this happens every time?

I have a question and I’m desperately hoping someone help me with an answer I recently discovered that my slide-out floor was rotting due to water damage I spent the last couple weeks trying to get the floor removed purchased half inch treated plywood to replace the floor however after finally fighting for weeks to get it out and installing the new treated plywood I discovered once I got the old for out it was actually three quarter inch thick and now my slide floor is sagging. Does anyone have any ideas on how to reinforce this from the inside without redoing the whole project? I just bought two $80 sheets of treated plywood wrap them in Tyvek I have already installed one 8-foot section?

Unfortunately I don’t know of a way to reinforce this without taking all of it back out. Slide floors are best made to fit or ordered from the manufacture since they have to be a specific thickness and length. You don’t really want to have seams going across either so it is best to get one solid piece. The weight limit of the slide is greatly reduced but installing something that is not a solid piece. I have know people to stagger pieces to make a different seam with each piece but this is not as sturdy as a made to fit piece. The floor has to be a certain thickness for strength and for the system to operate properly. The bottom of the slide is what rolls in and out and a different thickness will create it to not operate properly on some systems. I will share a link to a great supplier of slide room floors.

I just bought this and the steering is loose. While driving I have to constantly make small steering adjustments, sort of like a washing machine agitator, with it parked and the engine off I can turn the steering wheel 2 or 3 inches without the wheel moving. I had the front end lined up but it didn’t fix the problem.
If I make a sharp turn and the coach leans to one side it over compensates and it start rock from one side to the other. The only way to stop it is by pulling over and stopping. What’s wrong?

Tried moving front sway bar from front hole to rear but the (?) leaf spring touches the sway bar after repositioning. In the original front hole location, there is a 3”-4” space between the spring and the sway bar. Had to reposition-sway bar to original front hole location. Question: does anyone make an extended end link rod to provide the necessary 3”-4” space between the leaf spring (if that is actually what it is) and the sway bar? It would have to be 3”-4” longer than the stock one which runs vertically from a top bushing location to the sway bar. Thanks everyone!

We pull our TT with a 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty. The dealership moved the weight distribution anti sway hitch from our old TT to the new one. When we go over 55 mph the trailer starts to sway and feels unsafe. What could the problem be?

It is most likely the sway control you are using is not tight enough. Most models are able to have an adjustment done for more sway control. Is your new trailer longer than the old one? If it is a lot longer it will sway a lot more. I know on ones with over a 30ft box that many people added additional sway control of they only had it on one side. It really depends on the hitch equipment you are using but most likely it just needs adjusted to get more tension on the system.

Here’s what the experts had to say about your question:
The best thing to do is condition the slide seals. When these are exposed to the elements they can dry and crack over time. Conditioning them will help them last and perform better for much longer. The other thing to consider are all of the seals along the edges and tops, where the roof membrane wraps around and any other components that are attached and sealed. The most damage I have seen from slides are openings in the sealant. This can be at the main seam on the roof at the fasica, there is usually a tape and this needs to be in good shape. The edges around the fascias are important to check as well. Just make sure everything is sealed up properly to prevent any water intrusion. This is the best thing that can be done for the slide.

Rear stabilizing jacks
Just got my RV 5 days ago and when I got it home and hooked up to my 110 house current in my garage through the dogbone converter, everything works except for the 2 electrical outlets in the bedroom slideout. I have tried running the generator and still nothing works. I have tripped the GFIC in the bathroom, reset it and still no power to those outlets. No breakers are tripped and all the 12v fuzes look good. When I took to plate off that allows access to the back to the breaker panel I see nothing obviously wrong.
In my Thor Quantum KW29 I have a Winegard Connect 2.0+ WF2-35B 4G LTE + Wifi extender and I want to connect my apple TV through it to my TV’s. I have a cabinet I have the WF2-600 Wall Plate and a 1 – 4 HDMI splitter. Do I need another splitter to get the Apple TV to work? I have 3 TV’s but it only has to work on one of them.

Slide outlets can often have issues if the wiring snags when the rooms move out. Most likely a connection came out of the outlet or at a connection from another outlet to the slide. It is best to trace the wiring under the slide and find out where it ties into. Most likely it was attached to another outlet but it could go somewhere else. If the wire just snagged a little bit it could break the connection enough to cause the outlet not to work. You have already tested the important things so next would be tracing the wires. As for the Apple TV, I am only aware of it working by being directly connected to the TV itself. If you connect it to the input of a splitter it should go out to the other outputs to other TV’s. You would have the same output on all of the TV’s at the same time though. If you just need it on one TV, it is best to connect to the TV directly.

We don’t have any videos showing washing machine hookups at this time. Usually the water connections are directly next to the machine. If you look behind it or next to it you should see the two water connections and the drain. Sometimes you have to pull out the washer to gain access to the plumbing. It should be right around the washer though.

I would start with the simple things like fuel filter, air filter, oil change and make sure the gas is good. You might have some water in the gas so adding a fuel additive could help as well. The engine struggles more in cold weather with any of these issues. I do recommend HEET from ISO as a fuel additive for colder weather. It works wonders for this type of issue.

The awing will power in but not power out. Has new motor and Torsion Spring. 12 volts for in and o volts at the bottom of the front awning arm.
Hello Vann. Most likely it is the switch. The awnings work off of reverse polarity which means to go one direction the voltage is positive and to go the opposite the voltage is negative. If you are not getting and opposite reading at the awning wires most likely the switch is the issue. The switch is was reverses the polarity to bring the awning in and out.

How do you find a ground issue for the ac current? The chassis is “live”…
Hi Norman, If you mean that the chassis is “live” and you have a hot skin condition you would have to single out the circuits to isolate which one is causing the issue. I would start by turning off all breakers except the main in the distribution center. While testing the chassis, turn on each breaker one at a time until the issue arises. Which ever breaker creates the issue this will tell you which circuit has the issue. You then will be able to isolate each component on that circuit to narrow down where the issue is. There could be something internal creating the issue on a component like something plugged into an outlet, coffee maker, toaster, fridge etc. If you remove everything powered from that circuit and still have the issue then it is most likely in the wiring and you would have to trace that. This is the best way to narrow down where the issue might be.

I noticed bump in the floor and screws came thru and put tears in the linoleum. What would cause this to happen.
I was able to tighten the screw and put some loctite on in but I am concerned about a bigger problem.
Hi David. I have seen this happen on a few occasions. The ones I have seen were in the living room in the center of the floor. I unfortunately don’t know what causes this. It could just be a screw was not tight enough and walked up after a while, not wide enough threads in a pre drilled hole or something else. Using the loctite should work to secure it for good. The ones I have repaired before didn’t come back up and no other issues happened since that I am aware of so it could just be a bad batch of frames with certain screws. The frames are pre built before being sent to the manufacture to be built so it could have been an issue a lot of frames during a certain time frame. I wouldn’t be too concerned of an issue with your frame, again the ones I have seen this happen to seemed to be fine afterwards.

I am looking at no sway hitched and I see the Hensley , Proride where they claim no sway at all which sounds great but they are expensive. Would your recommend one those or something similar like the Anderson no sway hitch.
Hi David. I have heard good things about the Hensley units. I know a good friend that has one and swears by it but they are extremely expensive compared to everything else out there. I have not personally used one but I know a few that have them and they wouldn’t change to anything else. They do take longer to set up on each trip but aren’t very hard to do especially if you use a drill. The Anderson hitches are nice too but I don’t feel those are much different than other good weight distribution sets. I personally use an Equalizer hitch and it does great. I tried the Anderson and it did about the same for me. Didn’t have any issues so I can’t say if it was better or not as it just seemed about the same. Places with more cross winds might be able to tell you if one system works better than another but regular travel they are about the same. Anderson is priced about the same as other good sway systems. The Hensley is in it’s own class for design and price. I think the other systems are good as they still control sway, you may get a little in certain circumstances but they help drastically. Hensley says you will never get it so if you think that is worth the money then it might be worth looking into.

lights on jacks panel dead

LPG guage shows 3/4 full however, control panel in the cabin shows 100% control panel seemed to report 100% after a cold night, 30 degrees. The control panel shows 100% eve after temperature had risen above 50 dgrees.
checked all the wires to the guage an they looked all intact. thumped the guage lightly with no changes. How do you trouble shoot the issue, and can you replace the sending unit without affecting the guage?

It depends on the model but some can be replaced with using the same gauge. There are many different styles but check the side of the gauge for a wire harness, this can be replaced if it can easily be removed. Other models would have to have the whole system replaced and this can only be done once the tank is empty as it has to be removed. Really all you can do to troubleshoot is check the wiring. These systems aren’t always accurate though. Especially during large temperature fluctuations. Typically I see it reading less when it is cold out as propane expands when warmer it will read more full when it is hot. It is possible once it gets warmer it could read just fine, Again, these systems are not very accurate so it is possible you might be on the edge of getting to 3/4 as it will only read at quarter increments.

Have a bad situation with clogged water lines from the white mineral build up crud. Have flushed the water tank twice .
Have been able to take out and blow out one block line of that white mineral build up but need to flush the whole systems it seems.
Have good cold water flow but no hot water flow unless I run both cold and hot at same time then tjhere is good flow on hot water side but aslways just remains cold and within under a minute the flow on hot water side doews slow down to a trickle then nothing after cold water is shut off. Water onthe Hot water side will build up pressure again in time or like in then morning will turn on with full pressure al alone but then slows down to a trickle and eventually then to nothing. So seems water does build up but that white particle crud is evident.
Is flushing the lines with white vinegar the simple answer to dissolve any and all blockage?

I have found a machine shop in my home town that can repair the lippert leveling jacks.you can now have new seals installed rather than buying used jacks that you dont know if they work or how long for less money than a used one if you can even find one. you can call H & R machine @ 979-542-9271 ask for Johnny. he just did one for me at half the cost for a used one and with new seales. my jacks are lipperts hyd leveling jacks. you no longer have to buy new saving over $900.00 you owe it to yourself to at least call Johnny and ask him about it.
I think it would help others if you would make a video on how to load a car on a tow dolly. We have a Nissan and when the front wheels wouldn’t go on the ramps, I back up and give it a little more gas. Sadly, the front part of the car caught on the ramps and ripped off the front of the car. All made of plastic. I learned the hard way to place a couple of board in front of the ramps or take a shovel to add some dirt or rocks to make loading easier. Might save folks some money if the learn of this problem. We never thought of anything like this would happen. Very expensive lesson.

Procedure for replacing rear leafspring?
You will need to lift and support the RV. You then want to place a jack under the axle for support and then remove the shackle bolts the springs are attached to. Once the bolts are out you can remove the U bolts holding the leaf springs into place. When installing new leaf springs you have to use new U bolts, the old ones are not allowed being used as they can fail easily once removed. Check the specs on the new ones as they need to be torqued to a certain amount at install. They also have to be positioned a certain way but this will be noticeable when removing the old ones. This is all that is really needed to swap out the leaf springs.

Our water heater is not working on propane, it tries to ignite and I could hear the clicking sound. Is the orifice blocked and needs to be cleaned? if so, how do you remove it to the burner and how do you clean the orifice.
There are a few things that could cause this, blocked orifice is one of them. There could also be a blockage in the burner tube, this is more common. The orifice has a nut on the end and attaches to the side of the gas valve. Most of the time you don’t need to remove it to clean it. Take a cotton swab and dip it into rubbing alcohol and then wipe the orifice with it. This usually cleans out the opening of debris. Sometimes you do have to take out the orifice and do this from the inside as well but most of the time just doing it while installed helps. You then want to check the burner tube for a blockage. It is very common for a cob web to be inside or some other insect nest. There should be a few screws holding it in place that need removed. Some models need the end in the burn chamber removed and then the burner tube can twist off the orifice head. Inspect down the tube for any blockage. If these tips don’t work it could be low gas pressure, bad gas valve or dirty electrode preventing it from lighting as well.

I’m new to this RV world, I brought the use motorhome home and I was running the generator with the both roof top AC units working. I then tried to shut the generator off and did not realize you needed to hold the button down for at least 2 minutes. so the generator came back on as soon as I let off the button it did this twice before I held it down long enough. a little while later I started the generator and I had no AC working in either units. I found the breakers had tripped. I now can get the back AC unit to work but not the front. I also have no lights or anything else working. with the generator off I have no power from the hotel batteries. The battery disconnect switch in the entry way appears to be switching off and on I can hear it click and the light goes off and on. any ideas?
For the AC not working you have to test the 120v coming out of the breaker. A lot of times after a breaker trips it can fail and not turn back on. If there is voltage coming out of the breaker then you will have to test the system. I would start with the thermostat, most have a fuse on the thermostat and it is possible this blew when everything else did. As for the batteries not sending voltage you have to test the voltage at the batteries and the disconnect switch. If there is voltage at the batteries and not the switch then the switch is bad. It is possible your batteries aren’t good so you have to test the voltage on them to make sure before checking anything else. Also check the fuses near the batteries and at the distribution fuse panel as it is possible a fuse blew as well.

Doing renovations on our 5th wheel; permanently removing the half bath. Took out the toilet and found the flange had to be cut out because it is attached to the tank by a rubber grommet. Purchased an expandable 3 inch plug and inserted in the pipe and caulked it. Then filled around that pipe with expanding foam. Removed the sink and discovered in the plumbing that there are 2 anti siphon vents; one on the drain pipe and then another on the blue PEX water pipe. Removed the vent on the drain pipe and capped that off. Not sure what to do with the vent on the water pipe as that pipe is also attached to the kitchen water supply. We are concerned we have a leak of bad gases now as my wife is experiencing dizziness and her voice is horst. We were planning to remove the wall between the kitchen and that bath but now realize the stink pipe that vents on the roof runs up inside that wall. Looking for suggestions about the stink pipe and ideas about gases that we did not experience before we started the reno.

If you are not using the holding tank anymore it might be best to just take out the whole tank. If the tank was empty there shouldn’t be any gases coming from it and since it is capped off there really is no good way to flush out the tank other than running a hose out of the termination port where the sewer hose attached. If you are worried about fumes it probably is best to just remove the tank since you already capped off the toilet it really has no use. Once the toilet is removed the tanks just need to have the holding brackets removed to lower it down and then out. You can then cut off the vent pipe and just pull it out of the wall cavity. As for the sink and water lines, the one connected to the pex tubing is most likely a check valve to only allow water flow in one direction. It is going to be tied into the main water lines so if you don’t want to use any portion in that area you are going to have to cut the line, install a swivel connection and cap it to plug it off from the rest of the system.
