RV Lifestyle & Repair EditorsDescription
For whatever reason, your slide room’s top or side wipes might tear or become ineffective, requiring a replacement. So in this lesson, RV expert Dave Solberg walks you through the process of replacing a side wipe. He teaches you some essential tips and tricks for completing the replacement in just a few steps, and talks about a few things you should be aware of. With Dave’s help, you’ll have no trouble switching out the defective wipe for a new one that does the job!
On an Accu-Slide cable slide, if the room wipe is torn or missing, you definitely wanna get it fixed, get it replaced. Now you have one on the top here, we see this one. That's very easy to get at. We got a series of screws that just simply mount to this sidewall, and flap that in. Now the side here is a little more difficult.
So, what we've got is a piece of aluminum extrusion. And we've taken this jam piece off. Just a series of four or five screws that go in here. And what we're trying to do is we're gonna remove this. Now you'll notice when we pull this down, it is pinched at the top here.
So I would simply run that out like that. That's gonna give me a lot more room to be able to pull this whole thing out. Now, this one is screwed down at the bottom, so it's fastened. I'm gonna undo that one and then just slide this outta here. I may have to, if it's really tight up against this pulley here, loosen this cable here and take just this pulley out, so I can slide it back in.
But typically I can pull this out. It just comes right out of the top of this area here. And pulls out. Now you see that like here. Then the new one's just gonna slide in.
Little tip is to put a little bit of baby powder just along this and on that side there. It'll help it slide in. It won't stick quite as well. Once you slide the new one in here, make sure it flaps up against here and that you've fastened the bottom piece of it. This is gonna help squeegee the room, get any moisture off, especially off the top when we bring it back in.
We don't want that water inside. And that's gonna help seal, if the room in only halfway out, if we can't take it all the way out due to a post or a tree, or something in the way. So, fairly easy to replace. Just take a little bit of time, take your time going through that slotted area in here, and you can replace that seal.
